Haddo House is gearing up for the fifth Haddo Arts Festival, a week long celebration of music, opera, comedy, literature and art. The event starts on Saturday October 1st and opens with a performance by the Haddo House Choral and Operatic Society of Mozart’s Requiem. Events include a talk and book signing by renowned crime writer Stuart MacBride on Wednesday, a new show by comedian Jennie Chalmers on Thursday night, and a closing performance of ‘The Elixir of Love’ by Scottish Opera on Saturday 8th October.
Haddo House has been a leading venue for the arts in the North East for over 60 years, following the establishment of the Haddo House Choral Society by the late Marquess and Marchioness of Aberdeen in the 1940s. Internationally-known musicians such as Leon Goosens, and singers Lesley Garrett and Alfie Boe have performed at the atmospheric venue in the Aberdeenshire countryside, surrounded by the beautiful Haddo Country Park and neighbouring Haddo Estate, seat of the present Marquess of Aberdeen.
